Montrose entrusts the sale of its No.1 Bicentenary case to auction house Hart Davis Hart Wine
To celebrate its bicentenary, Château Montrose announces the launch of an exceptional case. A true “cabinet of curiosities”, this custom-designed case in a limited edition of 200 copies presents three numbered bottles in a rare format. The sale of case No. 1, entrusted to online auction specialist Hart Davis Hart Wine, will take place on 23 and 24 October. After that, the remaining 199 cases will be put on sale directly by the property.
At the origin, two centuries of history…
Respectful of the incredible history of this property since its creation in 1815, the Bouygues family, owner of the Saint-Estèphe Grand Cru Classé since 2006, wanted to celebrate its bicentenary by creating a unique case for collectors and lovers of fine wine. Already in 2015, by hosting the traditional Fête de la Fleur, Château Montrose wished to mark this anniversary date. On this occasion, the property also published a two-volume book tracing the history of the estate and paying tribute to the families who, for two centuries, were responsible for the destiny of this exceptional terroir. In the same spirit, the bespoke creation of this exceptional case, limited to 200 numbered copies, housing three bottles in a unique 200 cl format, represents a timeless trace of the 200-year history of Château Montrose.
A unique case in the tradition of a “cabinet of curiosities”
Crafted by hand, this prestigious case, like a “cabinet of curiosities”, also has many surprises in store for the lucky owner, and many opportunities to share moments of conviviality around tastings, reading and games. Thought out and designed as a rare “object”, it is a reflection of the precision work carried out throughout the year by the estate’s teams in the vineyard and the cellar. Its brown colour with silver reflections and its brilliant grain bring the imagination back to the earth, to the terroir, also unique, which marks the property’s wines with their signature vintage after vintage.
A trilogy around the 2015 vintage, the bicentenary year
A real showcase for the wines of Château Montrose, the bicentenary case houses 3 numbered bottles, specially designed to receive the 3 exceptional vintages of 2014, 2016 and of course the 2015 bicentenary vintage. These 3 vintages are among the property’s “Great Classics”. In common, they share climatic conditions without excess and a structure enhancing the elegance resulting from their strength and balance. They reflect 3 rich and varied expressions of the Montrose terroir. This exceptional trilogy embodies the charm and precision of the greatest vintages of Montrose and carries the legacy of their immense ageing potential.
